Cheryl’s teaching philosophy is based on kindness, connection and respect. She believes that every child has the right to be treated like a unique individual and have their thoughts, emotions and ideas respected. Her goal as a teacher is to create a play-based learning environment in which children feel safe and loved, can develop positive relationships with children and adults, and are free to explore, create, discover and connect.
“I have been a member of the Woodland Park Coop community as a parent since 2013 when the oldest of my three children started preschool here. Over the course of the past 6 years I have truly enjoyed learning and growing along with my children at this school.
I have been passionate about teaching for as long as I can remember. As a child I set up a classroom in my basement and made my younger siblings and neighbors pretend to be my students. I have learned a lot since then and have graduated from hand drawn work sheets that mimicked what I was used to seeing in my childhood classrooms to a much more progressive child-led approach. I believe that play-based education is the best way for children to learn in early childhood. It is my goal as a teacher to create a learning community in which children feel safe and loved and where they are free to explore, create, discover and connect.
What I love most about WPC is that it gives children and their families time to play together, learn together, grow together and just be together. WPC is a very special school and I am so thankful to get to continue to be a part of its community.”
